The Geography

Wilmslow is a town just south of Manchester in the county of Cheshire. It has a population of around 25,000. Its neighbouring towns include Alderley Edge, Macclesfield and Adlington. The town’s river is the River Bollin which flows through the town’s Carrs Park.

The History

Wilmslow grew in popularity during the Victorian era thanks to the railway connecting the town with Manchester. As such, it became a desirable area for merchants to live as they looked to move out of the city.

It was seen as a wealthy area for the North West and was part of what’s called the Golden Triangle with Alderley Edge and Prestbury. This is so-called because of the area’s affluence, expensive houses and desirability.

In recent years, this Golden Triangle has been dubbed the ‘footballer belt’ thanks to celebrity residents, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Cristiano Ronaldo, and David Beckham.

Travel And Connections

Wilmslow train station offers quick and easy access to Manchester while also offering a link to London’s Euston station with a journey that takes just under two hours. With this in mind, many residents of Wilmslow can easily commute to London thanks to a regular train service.

Another benefit of Wilmslow is its distance to Manchester Airport, which is a super-convenient 15-minute drive away.

If you’re in the car, it takes just ten minutes to drive from the heart of the town to the M56, which connects you to the rest of Cheshire and beyond.

Green Spaces

While Wilmslow offers excellent connections to the best cities in the UK, Wilmslow is well-known for its leafy locale and plentiful green space. The Carrs is one of the highlights of Wilmslow and offers a beautiful green space with playgrounds for kids, running routes and plenty of space for dog walks and picnics.

There is also the local National Trust site, Quarry Bank Mill, and plenty of woodlands to explore too.

According to Zoopla, flats tend to sell for around £267,000 while detached houses typically fetch above £500,000.
